I applied online and was contacted by the recruiter to complete an Indeed skills assessment, followed by two Zoom interviews.
During the first interview, I spoke with a recent PhD graduate with significantly less experience in the field than I did. However, his demeanor during the interview suggested otherwise, resembling that of a Nobel laureate. He provided me with a dataset and presented a few questions. Despite my efforts to explain my programming logic, it seemed as though they struggled to comprehend it, often appearing perplexed when I arrived at the answers. I even had to email him the finished code for one of the problems afterward, hoping he would still understand it.
The second interviewer was rather peculiar; he seemed aloof and disinterested throughout our conversation. I found myself continuously asking follow-up questions to fill awkward silences and keep the dialogue going for 45 minutes.
A week later, I received an automated rejection email. Despite reaching out to the recruiter and the hiring manager for specific feedback, I did not receive any response.
