During the hiring interview, you need to know what you're talking about. I worked on a project a few years ago at my academic university and was a bit thrown off by the questions they had on my project.

When I arrived, the receptionist took me to a small conference room where I waited 45 minutes for the first of 3 interviewers. They all seemed annoyed from the start. Each had a list of questions. I would barely start answering 1 question when they would cut me off and move on to the next. I thought this treatment was odd considering I had been a senior scientist for 9 years at a company Biorad was specifically recruiting from. I never heard from them again. I know the person who eventually got the job, which had been posted for 2 years, and he quit after 6 months.
