I wish I had read the reviews on here before meeting with them.
I was interviewed a Project Manager role, which this company has never had before. They also have no in-house HR/Recruiter, and this might be the reason why their behaviour and reputation are so bad. The external recruiter I dealt with was wonderful - but the people I met with at Blackline were not what I expected.
It was transparently obvious from the questions asked that they had no idea what a PM actually does. They want to grow the business (which I think has potential - which kept me interested), but they do not want to implement any processes or procedures to ensure stability and quality. A smallish company can do things on the fly - a larger one can't. I think this might be another reason why this company is struggling - the reluctance to surrender direct personal control (aka micromanaging) and put some common sense, proven processes in place.
The questions were largely pointless, but one in particular got my attention. I have never, ever, in over a decade of professional experience had someone ask me a question intended to deceive - until now. At first I thought maybe I might not have understood the question, but this is a pretty basic operation, I'm pretty experienced, AND I wouldn't expect a professional to ask me a "trap" question like that - so I responded that I felt confident I could deal with anything that might come along. Then he asked "are you able to tell if someone is BS'ing you, can you tell that?"
Grossly unprofessional. These people don't need a Project Manager - they need a strong HR person, they need to get real about their expectations, and they need to treat professionals with respect. I can well believe that anyone with other options would leave this company.
