Interviewed for a specific team but got completely unrelated interview technical questions. While we did pair programming, the interviewer wasn't familiar with Java and kept questioning my syntax (?). He also didn't do too much in terms of giving me direction, so the pair programming interview wasn't so much collaborative as it was stressful. I don't think that the interviews were really geared towards what you knew.

Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience. We were really disappointed to read about your interview process — definitely not cool, and we're really sorry. We'll discuss your feedback with the team immediately. We will work to make sure that future pair programming interviews are collaborative and have related interview technical questions. The candidate experience is very important at Square and we value your feedback.
Best,
