I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Block (Saint Louis, MO) in Jan 2016
Interview
I applied through Square's careers page. I got caught in the middle of their hiring break, so my interview process took quite a bit longer than it normally does (a couple of months versus a couple of weeks). As others have said, there was a writing exam, phone interview, group interview, and individual interview.
What I want to add is they seemed uninterested (or, rather, less interested) in credentials and much more interested in critical thinking. Your interviewers will ask a number of situational questions that provoke you to really think about your behavior at work--not so much what you've done but how you did it, from what I understood.
Also, don't rely on Glassdoor's questions TOO much. Most of the questions they asked me were ones I hadn't seen in my research. As hackneyed as it might sound, if you understand yourself and your work experience/ethic deeply enough to speak comfortably about it, you will likely do great!

The entire interview process took about 3 weeks. First there was a writing sample they ask for which is very easy. The next step was a phone mock call. I was pretty nervous because I wasn’t sure how the role playing would go but the rep was super friendly and fed me the info before hand & I just navigated through the call showing my customer service skills. It wasn’t really about getting the info right but more so how can u resolve an issue effectively. The last step was in on site interview that lasted about an hour. I met w/ 2 hiring “team leads” for 30min each. The first hiring manager was pretty laid back & did ask basic interview questions but it was more conversational. The 2nd was a little more direct (reading through a list of questions) and his questions were longer/more complex. Overall my experience was great everyone was superb friendly & the office is so awesome!

Interview
I quickly received a response to my application and followed up with a simple writing sample. I had a phone interview a couple of days later that included a mock phone call, followed by an in person interview about a week later. The in person interview was at the same time as several other interviews. I interviewed with two managers that asked standard interview questions. I thought it went well with the first manager but couldn't get a read from the second. I received a rejection email about a week after the interview but was not given any feedback.
Thanks for taking the time to apply and interview! Hopefully, you'll give us another try in the future. Thanks! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to glassdoor@squareup.com.
