I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Block (Toronto, ON)
Interview
Square interviewers were pleasant and great to interview with, but dealing with the third party company that was filling this role (Pro Unlimited) felt disorganized.
A few memorable concerns:
- job post and interviewees advised this was a downtown Toronto location, but initial job offer specified uptown Toronto location (wasn't sure if the responsibilities for both offices, requested clarification)
- miscommunication on benefits - because recruitment was based out of US, there was some confusion surrounding the term 'benefits' for Canadian employees (ie: dental, paramedical, medical, etc.) initially advised by Square recruiter I would 'receive the same benefits as a full time employee' which seems generous, but this was referring to in-office perks (snacks, wellness events). The actual benefits offering was only what is minimally required by the Ontario province (quite bare bones compared to tech/software/FinTech industry standards)
- some confusion on the interview/offer process - received a PRO Unlimited agreement/NDA to sign before receiving job offer (led to me clarifying 'is this the job offer? Is there a job offer outlining salary, benefits, vacation days?'). Not sure if this is standard with third party recruitment, I didn't want to sign any NDAs unless it was part of the actual employment acceptance.
- Interview process (which took place pre-COVID 19) was hosted 100% remotely. Perhaps I am biased in my experiences, but I thought in would've been nice to see the office in-person at some point (be it a tour, or even being offered to have the remote interview hosted on site in a meeting room) just to get a feel.

Interview
Most of the communication was by phone and email. The process was transparent. Everyone I spoke to was very friendly. They all made a stressful process manageable. However, scheduling the times for each interview stage was tricky as each interviewer was located in a different time zone. Overall a positive experience
