      Procurement Specialist Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Bobcat EMEA (Buford, GA) in Sep 2023

      Interview

Initial interview was done through a website where I recorded my answers to their questions via video. The second interview was on site in Buford, GA. Very standard process in person. I received a call the next week with a verbal offer of the position. I was told HR would follow up with the actual written offer, benefits, incentives, time off, etc. At the time I thanked them and said I was excited for the opportunity to work with them. I also let them know that I was looking forward to going over the TOTAL offer with benefits, time off, etc. not just salary. They stated if I had any questions with any of it to speak with HR. I received the information from HR the following morning where I realized there were some benefits that were lacking, along with their PTO and time off schedule. With that, I called HR to negotiate the salary. The HR rep seemed confused and said that the hiring manager had stated that I fully accepted the offer the day before so he was a little confused. He said he would however run it by them and let me know. I would like to take this time to reiterate what I said earlier, in which I told them I wanted to look over the TOTAL offer. I in no way accepted the position "as is" without knowing all of the fine print of the benefits, time off, incentives, etc. That is a huge part of accepting an offer. I let the HR rep know that and the following day he called me back and let me know that the hiring managers were "taken back" by the fact that I wanted to negotiate. That they were under the impression that I had verbally accepted and did not understand nor felt comfortable about the situation. (……What???) I somehow offended these individuals by a NORMAL process in the hiring stages. I have worked at numerous organizations, fortune 500 companies included, and I have never had hiring managers be so offended by a negotiation. I think Doosan has some educating to do with their teams that are hiring. No one should have to accept an offer with a vague verbal salary only and NO details of other factors. Prospects should be able to look over a job offer and read the fine print details before accepting an offer, and even more so, negotiation should not offend anyone. This was such a strange ending to the process but I am thankful that it did not work out. I would not have felt comfortable working at this location after this experience.
