I applied on-line. Then I called because I didn't hear back. The very next day, I received a call from a recruiter who asked me basic questions about my experience, skills and compensation requirements. I was called within a day for an on-site interview. They emailed me a document of their compensation and benefits plan and also included things like what to bring to the interview. It emphasized to be prepared to know about the company.
I arrived 20 minutes early to the interview. The interviewer who was the Director of the department was about 10-15 minutes late. The entire interview took 3 HOURS! First, I interviewed with the Director of HR and the hiring Director. Then, I was placed in a room to meet with who would be my co-workers. I felt a bit uncomfortable as they kept saying things like "Now that so and so is not in the room, is there ANYTHING you want to know?" I think they wanted me to ask what it was like to work with her. But it didn't occur to me at the time so I said no. Then the one lady said " are you sure there isn't ANYTHING at all you want to know? I said no. It was very odd. It is also odd that they would have non-hiring people meet with you and have a hand in their decision making process. Both ladies had over 20 years in the same position and had recently been promoted due to a restructure of the department. After that odd meeting, another lady came into the room and asked me a few questions then told me that she liked my answers that I gave to the previous people who asked me questions.
So after a long process- I was sent off. I heard back via email within a week and told that they gave the position who better met the job requirements.
They spent a lot of time telling me how learning acronyms was an important part of the job. I have a Master's degree with 15 years of management, leadership and HR experience. It seemed that they were not at all interested to hear about what I could bring to the table. I didn't really hear much about what the job entailed. I imagine based on what I gathered that it would be overseeing the assistants. But I will never know.
I was happy to hear from BI because I really wanted to work there based on what others have said- but that experience completely turned me off. What a waste of time.
