It started with the HR reaching out to me. She asked about my current profile, asked for my sample work and my aspirations with the new role. I was seeking a senior marketing role but was told to come to their Mumbai office and based on the interview process they would decide. I worked on an assignment for their open source program which included a blog post and presentation on how to crack open source program with 1 strategy.
Just before flying I again checked with the HR whether they had a senior role because I didn’t want to waste time of either parties. Finally when I was there at the office, I was told that I have to go through five rounds with marketing head, product head, operations head, hr and CEO.
The first round was with the marketing team. I think the presentation was solid. I did a lot of research by profiling their customers and coming up with good buyer personas which even their head agreed to. He asked me that do you understand in the first place why we have the free open source program and my answer was spot on with his reply.
I am ready to accept my shortcoming in case I lacked product knowledge but that’s obvious I don’t work on the product. To my defense, the panel should ask concept that would have tested my experience and logical bend of mind. Which they didn’t.
Lastly, when I was supposed to ask them questions. I came prepared with a set of questions like customer touchpoints, power users, lead nurturing, contribution to adwords and for everything the response was that we recently started everything. Based on this interview, I was told that my process is over and I can leave. The product has grown on word of mouth. The marketing team is not structured and focussed. Only good thing is that they pay for your air fare.
