I initially applied for the position spontaneously when I was in the store to sell clothing. In the conversation I was having with the buyer (and assistant manager), it came up that I was looking for a summer job. She quickly informed me that they were actually hiring and provided me with a short application form. In a week, I received a call asking if I would be interested in coming in for an interview. I was excited and accepted right away. The first interview was with the store's general manager and an assistant manager, and was around 45 minutes long. In this interview (which I would later find out was the first of three), I filled out an initial personality assessment, and then answered questions that I would characterize as typical first interview questions (e.g. What skills do you possess that you think would be valuable in this workplace? Have you ever experienced a conflict in your work, and how did you resolve it?). The two interviewers were very professional and quite serious, but warmed up as I offered up answers to their questions. A week after the first interview, I received another call informing me that they would like to ask me back for a second. This time, before coming up to the office, they wanted me to spend some time on the floor and pick out 3 garments that I would categorize as "safe buys" and 3 that I would categorize as "risky buys." During this interview, I spoke with the general manager (again) as well as a different assistant manager. We delved more into my fashion sense and what I would actually be doing in this job. Towards the end of the interview, we reviewed my picks from the floor, and I was given the opportunity to explain my reasoning for each. This task was not so much a end-all-be-all test that would determine whether or not I got the job, but rather an exercise to assess how my way of thinking. Finally, I received a call for the third interview. I was fairly certain I would be offered the job at the end of it. This interview was just with the store's general manager and, along with more questions, we did another skill task in which I guessed at prices for various clothing items they had pulled from the floor. This task was important because the biggest part of the job at Buffalo is buying merchandise for the store and pricing it correctly. As I had anticipated, at the end of this interview I was offered the job.
