Was the finalist for the TRIO Director position. I flew out to California for the final round interview, which was several hours long. I should add that this flight was $800 round trip. I was introduced to everyone in the office and was given a campus tour. At the end of the day, I was told that I was the last candidate for the position and that I would hear from them soon. Two weeks went by, and I was told the hiring manager had Covid. More waiting. Never heard back from the hiring manager.
During the interview, they explained that they had problems with diversity in the staff at Cal Poly SLO, as all of the admins I met were white women. However, they seem to have ultimately hired another white woman for this director role, months later. Clearly, when all white women are in charge, hiring more white women means diversity. They can't seem to help themselves.
