This was a waste of my time.
The recruiter emailed to set up a 30-minute preliminary phone call with me after I applied via the Carvana website (applied in mid-December-ish, and was contacted in early January).
She was polite and upbeat, but spent the entire 30 minutes asking me questions that I had already thoroughly answered in my résumé and/or my cover letter, which I submitted, as required, along with the brief application. She clearly hadn't looked at them. Still, it was obvious she felt a need to fill this role quickly and was eager to just push the process along.
However, I chose not to pursue the position further (and eventually got an automated rejection email when I didn't follow up at her request) because the pay offered was insultingly low for the stress and demands of the work described. It included:
- Lots of physically rigor, like loading and unloading vehicles from trucks, washing and detailing those vehicles, etc.
- Long, hectic delivery routes and hellish commuting guaranteed by the fact that this particular job was based in a traffic-jammed major city.
- High volumes of detailed paperwork and customer correspondence
- The expectation to commit long hours, sometimes up to 7 days a week
- The pressure of literally being the face of the company to customers, since the Field Advocates are the ones actually delivering the vehicles.
All of the above is fine and necessary for the company to operate, but the compensation offered for it was a joke. Yes, overtime was offered, but only at 1.5x, and this seemed pretty meager compared to their expectations.
