I applied on the website and was contacted via email pretty quickly. I did a phone screen with a Recruiter. Very nice guy. Then I had a virtual interview with his Manager. Instead of an email, I got a call from the guy I spoke to (can't say which department), asked me how the interview with his Manager went, how I felt about joining the company - only to tell me I wasn't considered to move forward because the team was concentrated on "faster paced candidates" than me.
Though "they loved speaking to me," I was not a good fit for their fast-paced environment. (Which I am) I would ask behavioral-type questions about that during the interview, but they didn't. Then he asked if I would be okay hanging out for a couple of months and they may decide to hire more people for the same role. I could probably be considered then. This is what email is for. There are rejection emails in ATS systems just for this. Not only were my hopes gotten up, but the feedback I received was absurd especially after being buttered up.
So, I did a check on LinkedIn and was quite perplexed to see a vast majority (65% if my math was correct) of the role I interviewed for had ZERO Recruiting experience prior to joining Carvana, or barely had 3-months of life experience period. I'm not fast-paced enough, but these non-experienced folks are? These folks are making decisions on who to hire or progress forward? The guy I spoke with at least had some related experience at Carvana and before he joined Carvana.
I have 6 years of experience in the field I applied for Was my feedback code word for I'm too experienced? Or over-qualified? I have no idea. Very disappointing experience to say the least. Six years ago, you had to have years of experience to be considered to be in Recruiting. In Carvana's case, anybody can do it as long as you have a LinkedIn page and a picture of yourself attached.
