      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at CIBC (Toronto, ON) in Dec 2025

      Interview

I interviewed for a Senior Application Consultant role within Financial Crimes Technology. The process consisted of a single 1-hour in-person interview. While the job description emphasized enterprise-scale backend systems, integration planning, strategic technical design, and leadership responsibilities, the interview focused primarily on junior-level technical questions. These included: Writing a palindrome algorithm on a whiteboard Explaining differences between LinkedList and ArrayList Defining inner join vs outer join Basic coding under time pressure The format resembled an entry-level developer screening rather than a senior application consultant evaluation. There was limited discussion around system architecture, large-scale backend integration, technical roadmapping, or leadership, which were highlighted in the job posting. Additionally, the whiteboard coding portion felt heavily pass/fail oriented. If you struggled with one question, there was little opportunity to demonstrate broader experience or architectural thinking. The interviewer was professional and respectful, but the evaluation criteria did not seem fully aligned with the advertised senior scope of the role. Interviewed back in December 2025. Communication post-interview required follow-up to receive a final decision.
