      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at CRITICALSTART in Dec 2024

      Interview

The TA team reached out to me within two weeks of submitting my application, which is impressive in today’s job market. The initial video screening was pleasant, and at the end of the call, I was informed that the next step would be completing a pre-employment assessment within 48 hours. It would be helpful if this timeline were clearly stated on the company’s career website, so candidates aren't caught off guard. The assessment consists of a Predictive Index behavioral evaluation and a cognitive assessment. The cognitive section is particularly challenging—it's a 12-minute test with 50 SAT/ACT-style questions that require you to answer quickly (roughly 15 seconds per question) to at least achieve 50% correct answers. As another candidate has mentioned, the assessment does not measure your technical or trade skills, nor does it evaluate whether your experience aligns with the role. Additionally, the company does not share the passing criteria for this test, leaving candidates uncertain about their chances if they don’t perform well. Having been out of higher education for nearly 25 years, I bring extensive experience, metrics, leadership, and success in the tech industry. I believe this assessment is not an accurate reflection of my ability to make a meaningful impact in the role. It seems that this process may inadvertently favor those with a recent academic background and penalize candidates with valuable real-world experience, which could be seen as age or standardized testing bias. If this is the approach the company uses to assess compatibility with its "culture," I am fine with not moving forward in the process.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and feedback about our hiring process. We appreciate your insights and are always looking for ways to improve the candidate experience. Our assessments are designed to help us understand how individuals approach problem-solving, collaboration, and decision-making. They are not pass/fail tests, but rather one of multiple data points we consider in the overall hiring process. We understand that the cognitive section can be challenging, and we strive to ensure transparency and fairness in our process. Additionally, we do offer accommodations upon request to support candidates who may need adjustments. We include this information in our communications to ensure all applicants have the opportunity to perform at their best. We truly appreciate the time you invested to interview with us and your thoughtful feedback. If you have any further suggestions, we’d love to hear them as we continue to refine our process.
