Was contacted about 1 month later with an interview to be set up about a month after that. In person interview with 4 managers. Very specific writing assignment given after the in person interview, given about 1 hour to write up a mock report.

You apply via jobs.ca.gov, but you must have eligibility, which is obtained by taking a state test. After submitting the necessary documentations and applying, you may or may not get called to schedule an interview. In my experience, a panel of three senior geologist conduct the interview, then it is followed by a short exam.
