      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Feb 19, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Calix in Feb 2021

      Interview

I was reached by a third party recruiter on LinkedIn that connected me to Calix. After 2 calls with this recruiter Calix scheduled the first 45 minutes interview with a Cloud Development Vice President. It was an easy and straight forward conversation with not a single technical question, but questions on past experiences (not too deep in my resume though, just random scenarios). A few days later I was asked to move to the next round for other 5 (five!) 30 minutes interviews. Due to pressure from the original recruiter company I schedule all five in a single afternoon. The interviewers were "Talent & Culture Business Partner", "Senior Manager, Software Engineering", "Principal Software Engineer", "Director, Software Engineering" and "Principal Software Engineer". The director didn't show up and I had to re-scheduled that. Other than the talent & culture one, all were focused in scalability and didn't really focus on how my experience would help the company but on how to solve their issues (it's like asking for a question, but ignoring the answer and keep talking). After completing all these calls I was ghosted by both Calix and the recruiter. When I decided to ask the recruiter about the status of it, it took a few days yet to receive a polite generic negative response stating "It wasn't an easy decision to make after so many discussions, but they are extremely selective in their process and they didn't see this as the right fit for them". Overall, they were all polite and respectful, but I feel I didn't have the chance to even talk about my skill and how I would be able to help the company. Instead I just listened the same talk again and again and at the end they just didn't like me for reasons (?). Long story short: it seems a nice company, with a confuse hiring process and I was not good (lucky) enough.

      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Jul 31, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Bengaluru
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Calix (Bengaluru) in Jun 2023

      Interview

While I appreciate the opportunity to interview with the company, I express my disappointment with the overall process. 1. Prolonged Interview Rounds: Throughout the interview process, each round they took a minimum of one week to be scheduled. 2. Lack of Follow-Up: consistently i did follow up with HR. Unfortunately, I rarely received proper updates from HR, which led to confusion and uncertainty. 3. Delayed Response After last Rounds: After successfully completing three rounds of interviews, I was informed that my profile was being considered further. However, it took more than 10 days for any response, and even then, the inquiry about my availability to join immediately caught me off guard. 4. Unclear Response on Notice Period: When I explained that I would require time to serve my notice period upon receiving an offer, I was informed that the matter would be discussed with the hiring manager and a response would be provided the following day. 5. Lack of Communication: Regrettably, there was no follow-up or communication as promised, despite my attempts to get updates. Each time I reached out, I was told that my profile was in the queue due to the consideration of other candidates. 6. Ambiguous Profile Status: When I inquired about the status of my application and the possibility of rejection, I was informed that my profile was not rejected but being held while other profiles were under review, which is like giving falls hope. 7. Uncertain Timeline: I was informed that an update would be provided within 10 days, which adds further uncertainty to the process. In addition to the time taken for each stage, the lack of clear communication and transparency made me frustrated. Overall the experience with HR is not good and they talk like they don't care about candidate time and urgency!

      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Calix (Bengaluru) in Jan 2023

      Interview

Initially they process my profile for Staff software engineer After completion of all rounds, at the time of offer they asked me to join as Senior Software Engineer. Dont go with the Salaries for Calix shown in glassdoor, that will create misconception. They are offering 35 lpa for 10 years experienced Java developer in Senior software engineer role. Interview questions are very simple, basic programs-leetcode easy, basic design question.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

First round was taken by 2 interviewers and 2 basic programs were asked to code Second round was one on one and basic design question and basic scenario to write Third round was one on one and basic design question and a piece of code to be written. Fourth was with Manager - past work experience, challenging technical tasks. Fifth was with VP - past work experience, challenging project to discuss, just a brief overview. Sixth was with HR-they want to see your commitment in joining Calix. All rounds went well and the process took about a month. They were offering ctc way too less then current ctc.
