The process itself is lengthy and lacks human touch. After applying online, I received an automated email from the hiring manager, asking me to write a cover letter of why I am considering the role, what's my background and something I am proud of. The process stages are given as below:
Enhanced cover letter submission
Phone Screen
Standardized assessment test
Peer Interviews (4)
Written Assessment
Hiring Manager Interview
Executive Interviews (2)
Panel Decision / Offer
After submitting my cover letter, I was invited to an interview with an indirect report. The interview is generic and just looking at overview of your experience and it's just for 30 mins. Once I passed this one I was sent a link for two tests Thomas GIA and PPA. I was told to answer it with speed and accuracy and in my native language. That was a bad advice the PPA in my native language uses adjectives that has double meaning. I have highlighted in my reponse that the output might not be represntative as they ask you to do that in the test invitation. Anyway,I didn't get the results of these exams after finishing them as they are sent to Canonical directly. I asked for a copy and the HR provided them to me. In the GIA, I scored greater or faster then most people in Reasoning, Perceptual Speed, Number Speed & Accuracy and Spatial visualisation. The report talked about my greater ability to visualise data and solve problems as well as my lenancy to not double check my answers as I unlikely to make mistakes. It also adviced on how I need to communicate visually to others who might not be well skilled as I do but in general it says I am scored higher then other candidates. All of that made me think that I did extremely well in the score. I scored as avarage in word meaning which is a standard for a bilingual. PPA results said I am positive, optimistic, enthusiastic, influential, persuasive, verbal, friendly, communicative, competitive, forceful, direct, assertive, self-starter, driving, active, mobile, alert, restless, strong-willed and independent. Which all are traits for someone on a director level. The report also goes "My Name greatest contribution to the organisation lies in his natural abilities to
interact positively with people, in combination with his strong drive to achieve
worthwhile results. He is, therefore, an excellent team member willing to help others
promote their projects as well as his own.
As a result of his ability to make favourable impressions by communicating easily and
confidently and thereby generating enthusiasm, I am usually successful at
opening doors and developing relationships for the business and/or the community. In
this regard his drive for results, willingness to take authority, make decisions and expedite
action will ensure timeous achievement of most of his goals and objectives.
His eagerness to accept challenges and venture into the unknown and question the status
quo will often bring a fresh perspective to organisational issues together with innovative"I thought that would qualify me to move to next level but later received an email that they are humbled that I have considered them but no they won't continue with my application for no reason at all. Just a blanket rejection. I have literally invested 3 weekends to fullfil their requirements and the least they can do is a phone call or an illustrative email of why they reached that conclusion. As a hiring manager and I have hired a lot of successful colleagues, you don't depend solely on data, reports or stats to reach a hiring decision. There's a gut feeling you get from "speaking" with the candidate that gives the confidence on the report output. I haven't even had a screening interview with HR or someone to align in my expectations of package, process time frame, etc. to save us both times. The process is so mechanically driven and poorly executed regardless if the good intentions of eleminating conscious biase. Good luck Canonical, I hope you learn from all the comments here.
