I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Capital One in Sep 2014
Interview
I was interviewing for data scientist position at capital one labs (they started this project a couple years ago, based in NY, DC, SF). Initial chat with recruiter followed by a small online test (easy), a data mining coding challenge on a larger dataset (harder), 3 technical screen, 2 behavior, 2 job fit, 2 case interviews.
A couple of the interviewers told me they were still exploring the interview process for labs so... it seemed to me they currently threw a bunch of technical interview process on top of what they do with the business analysts. Recruiter is very nice and have good tech background.
The Richmond campus is very nice; new HQ at Tysons Corner looks impressive; lab try to imitate the startup environment, on the more relaxed side. (I went on-site to Richmond campus and DC lab, stayed one night at a hotel by the HQ).
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
My favorite part is the coding challenge -- the right amount of richness in data & a peek at their credit card business... The process itself is grueling, way too long! They really should consider introducing some team-based match into the process.
Only gone through the initial HR interview process so far. Waiting to go through OA and power day. Applied mid June. Got an answer end of June/ early July. Seemed like just a screening of the resume so far. Nothing substantial yet.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Capital One (Dallas, TX) in Jan 2026
Interview
I had an interview with the hiring manager, and she started to ask about my CV and went through the details of each project, and also asked additional questions about each project, what would happen if we do this or that
The recruiter call me and after a 30 min meeting with HR they set me up for interview with the manager, but no one showed up and they never responded my email
