I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Capital One (New York, NY) in Nov 2024
Interview
The process has a screening stage (online coding test) followed by Power Day with 4 interviews.
1) Completed a 90 minute online CodeSignal coding test with 4 questions. The last question was hard, the rest were straightforward. I only got 3 right and partial credit for the last one (1/4 of the unit tests passed so I got 1/4 credits). It is important to read the CodeSignal materials sent by the recruiter which has pointers to practice questions. Also a good strategy is to write some code to pass the obvious test cases in the last question if you do not have time to tackle it.
2) The second stage Power day consisting of 4 interviews: coding, system design, case studies and behavioral.

Question 1
1) Coding question: leetcode easy (mimic a storage system).
2) System design: banking system to support 4 different types of transactions. Scalability and availability follow-up questions.
3) Case: this is similar to the Youtube video case study about the ING acquisition and customer approval logic. The business scenario is straightforward (CapitalOne is coming up with a new type of credit card) and what are the pros/cons of this service. Was asked to analyze a function with complicated if/else/if. My analysis indicated that some of the input arguments and code were redundant. Summarized the purpose of the function in 1 concise sentence, and rewrote code for correctness and clarity.
4) Behavioral. This was very enjoyable. Talked about a few situation from past experience (tell me about a time when you disagreed with your manager, tell me about a time when you need to learn something new, etc).
Multi-part interview. Big parts are two case interviews, a job fit interview, and a behavioral interview. There is also an initial screening with the recruiter and hiring manager. The case interviews are pass/fail so study for those.

Initial phone interview was great. Actual interview was subpar. Interviewer had unkind attitude and seems like she just views interviewees as another line item under their wing. Did not seem like a team
