I applied online. I interviewed at CarData (Sarasota, FL) in Jul 2026
Interview
The interview process was entirely in shadow form, and structured as a sort of "two-way interview" in which I was able to get a feel for the job at the same time the employer was preparing me for it. Shadow days consisted of following a manager through the day-to-day tasks of the position applied for, and I was paid commission based on the work we completed together. Everyone was extremely communicative, friendly, and willing to answer questions and work through some of my own concerns.

I applied in-person. I interviewed at CarData (Venice, FL) in Mar 2026
Interview
I appeared to be more of an introduction to the role, hence it was called a shadow day. I was getting to the practice photos on the cars and told that later on, the photos would be evaluated to see what needs to be further improved on to continue on, but that's when I got sent home all because another applicant applied before I did... What baffled me was; Why was it NOT a hiring manager there but a sales/marketing rep instead? That was weird to know on a first shadow day.

I applied through other source. I interviewed at CarData (Chicago, IL) in Jan 2026
Interview
The shadow process is very neglectful and leaves a terrible impression on the company as a whole.
The trainer does not explain the role properly and tends to leave the trainees inside while they do the work.
When the trainer can’t answer a question I had to resort to calling HR for a clear answer.
This is the absolute worst shadowing I’ve experienced in my career.
