I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at CarMax (Las Vegas, NV) in Mar 2013
Interview
Online application, phone interview which lead to in person interview. Got asked a lot of "tell me about a time when..." questions for the first face to face interview. After that you sit in the showroom for a bit before another manager comes and speaks to you. Asks you a few more "tell me about a time when.." questions and asks for a mock car sale role-play. Essentially they want to see that you can ask "why" (in regards to this car, what are you using it for, etc") and tie that into some sort of recommendation to close the deal or test drive the car. After that, another meeting with a sales manager and the LGM to ask MORE "Tell me about a time when.." and then you sit in the showroom some more. Then they come and ask if you want a job and you pee in a cup and look at some papers and sign them and you're on your way. Took about 4 hours.

Question 1
Tell me when you went out of your way and above for a manager.
I applied online. I interviewed at CarMax (Oceanside, CA)
Interview
I had a disappointing experience with interview process. After submitting an online application, I was contacted by a hiring manager/recruiter who scheduled a 20-minute phone interview for a specific date and time.
Unfortunately, no one called at the agreed-upon time, and I did not receive any communication explaining the missed interview or offering to reschedule. A few days later, I received an automated rejection email.
The lack of communication and professionalism throughout the process was frustrating. If a company chooses to move forward or not move forward with a candidate, at least a basic courtesy and timely communication is expected.

Question 1
Are you available for a 20 minutes phone interview next week?
About a 15-20 minute phone interview. Basic questions like past job experience, are you comfortable with customer service? If they like you, you move on to an in person interview. A scripted interview with one of the sales managers asking open ended questions on why you would be a good candidate, if you have sales experience, & that you understand it is a 100% commission position. You will then complete a sales exercise on the lot, where you complete a brief walkaround of a vehicle & present some obvious features & benefits of the vehicle. If you get passed that, you meet the General Manager where he/she will be the final decision. He asked repetitive questions the sales managers did & then asked specific questions like "Describe a time you sold a product, what was the determining factor that resulted in the customer buying that product?"
