There was supposed to be 3 rounds of interviews. First with the HR personnel, then with the creative team, and finally the head of the creative team. Went through the first 2 rounds and was offered the role unofficially via the phone by the HR personnel - apparently the creative team was really pleased with the second interview I had with them and wanted to offer me the role right away without going through the third interview.
I told him I would wait for his email regarding the proposed package and also did tell him honestly that I was still on the lookout for other job opportunities and would need time to weigh out my options (Carro was the first company that got back to me with an offer) and he said he understood and he also sheepishly pleaded with me not to accept other job offers in the meantime. I laughed it off and said I would wait for his email.
Fast forward to 3 days later and the HR personnel sent me a message over WhatsApp saying the following (verbatim):
'Hi ____. I hope you are well. Unfortunately, the marketing team has decided to change directions and have decided not to move forward with your application. I'm sincerely sorry that this has happened but there has been a last minute change.' ????
You had the cheek to ask me not to accept other companies' offers and yet reject me after telling me I was offered the role? I think this is completely unacceptable. Yes, I might have told him I was still on the lookout for other opportunities, but that doesn't mean you could give me false promises. What if I had been rejecting other offers during those 3 days and wound up facing this rejection? I would've been livid. But right now, I'm just sorely disappointed with how the situation panned out.
I did have a pleasant chat with the HR personnel the first time and also with the creative team during the second interview, but I don't appreciate how I was rejected despite the role being offered to me.
