      Sr. QA Engineer Interview

      Jun 5, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Melbourne
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cash App (Melbourne) in May 2023

      Interview

8 interviews that had a lot of overlap in terms of content. Felt like it could easily have been 3-4 interviews. During the process I was given an interview meant for an SDET role, and it was only obvious when I asked at the end why I was being tested on my ability to write platform code rather than automated tests. If I didn't ask that I would have potentially been given a "no" then and there. Following that I had a week of interviews that went extremely well, feedback was that I gave the best answers out of any of the candidates. During one of the interviews there was what seemed like a junior QA shadowing the interview to ask questions. They didn't understand my answers, and asked questions that I already answered quite specifically, i.e. "I would do X because while Y is an option it can cause Z, and doing X will avoid Z" only to be asked "Why would you do X when you could do Y?". The feedback from the "junior" was slightly negative overall, when the feedback from the senior in the same interview was overwhelmingly positive. For the final interview I was asked to do more coding work, which wasn't what I was told to prep for that interview - I was told it was a process interview. The coding challenge was an extremely specific pattern for mobile, despite Cashapp being aware ahead of time that I didn't have mobile experience recently (yet they approached me about the job). It felt like I was being tested on a specific piece of knowledge anyone with some automation experience could have learned about from 30-60 minutes on google. This one interview was enough of a "no" that the job offer became a "no". Overall the process was filled with mistakes, moving goal posts, and unprofessional interviewers. I would have been hesitant to take this job even if I was offered it in the end.
