This was the worst interview experience I've had over my 10 years working in tech. Posting now after going through this process last year.
I applied on June 27th, with the first email back from the recruiter a full 5 weeks later on August 1st.
The first round was interestingly a written assignment, before I even had the chance to talk with a recruiter. I spent 2-3 hours answering a few scenario-based questions about whether to file Suspicious Activity Reports, and submitted on the same day.
1 week later I was contacted for a second-round interview...this one being a 20-minute recruiter screen to "learn more about you, and share more details about this opening". It seemed strange that this was happening after I'd already spent hours on a written assignment, but I was delighted to have passed into the next round.
This second round was a disaster by Cashapp.
The recruiter showed up 10 minutes late to my 20 minute interview, and did not extend the time at all. She spent the first 5 minutes essentially reading the job description, and then the last 5 minutes directed 2 questions to me:
1) Can you describe how your experience fits this role? (I answered with 4+ years working as a Compliance Analyst/Strategist at another FinTech)
2) Are you familiar with XXX specific legislation? (No, but here is an example of a time I successfully worked with unfamiliar legislation and exceeded expectations. Even my colleagues who continue to work in AML don't know this particular law).
The call ends after 10 minutes. And 2 weeks later on August 20th, I got an automated rejection email.
This process was a complete waste of time, and signaled unprofessionalism / little respect for candidate time & effort.
Why make me go through a multi-hour written assignment, only to then follow with a 20 minute recruiter screen? Why show up 10 minutes late to this screen, only to ask 2 questions which could have been Yes/No questions on the application?
I hope CashApp has gotten it together since then, as this was a truly strange and frustrating interview experience.
