The process started with the recruiter getting in touch with me to do the initial sanity check on my profile. He then setup a telephone interview with the hiring manager. He kept me updated of the progress and checked in with me regularly.
I had 2 telephonic rounds which involved general design/ data structure questions and a small coding test. A couple of days later I got an email from the recruiter to setup a face-2-face interview at their downtown office. The interview was scheduled from 9:00-1:15 pm with lunch provided. This part involved interaction with 6 people and a live coding test.
Everyone on the panel was super welcoming and professional. It felt more like a technical discussion rather than an interview. This, of course, made me feel very comfortable and helped with how I performed. I was mostly asked system design & scalability related questions.
After the interview the hiring manager was sweet enough to give me tour of their work space, which is spread over 3 floors with fantastic bay views from the 14th floor. :-)
Another couple of days later I got a call from their Sr. Manager, Talent Acquisition letting me know that they would be making an offer and what the next steps would be. I must say that through the 'traditionally awkward' salary negotiations I was made to feel that they genuinely wanted me to join and that they were looking for a win-win situation in terms of not just the monetary remunerations but also the whole package that they offer.
While we were able to agree on the offer in terms of compensation & benefits there were some other personal factors which meant I was unable to accept their offer of employment.
Of all the places I've interviewed, my experience here at Castlight Health has been the best. Its unfortunate that I've had to pass on their offer but hopefully I'll get another shot at this sometime in the future.
To the Castlight team. You've clearly spent time and effort in streamlining your recruiting process. Please keep at it. It was a pleasure.
