On a lark, I applied for work at CM. Bored with the corporate world, and being a life long foodie, I thought if I could get on there, perhaps it could hold a good future for me, and a rewarding job to boot. Incoming payscale: minimum wage. (shudder) 1st interview is a panel interview with multiple candidates. We were asked to recreate our resume with colored markers & paper, emphasizing why we'd want to work at CM. Then, a bunch of vegetables were brought in and put on the table. Not just ordinary vegetables, things you don't see at your average grocery store, things you don't even see at HEB stores. I could identify all but one. I was surprised that most of the other candidates didn't do very well at this, some of them were HEB veterans. Then, they brought in spices and herbs for us to identify. (tasting & smelling was allowed). I killed on this one too, got them all right. Then, we were asked to do an impromptu presentation about one of the spices/herbs and talk about how it can be used. Once again, my foodie background filled in and I nailed this to the wall. then we were paired with one of our co-interviewees and asked a hypothetical: one played the CM employee role, and the other the customer role: Scenario: A customer brings in a piece of fish in a Costco bag, saying it smelled stale and wanting it replaced. The guy I was playing opposite of said "sorry lady, you didn't buy that here" - wrong answer: CM will replace the fish regardless of where it came from (or what bag the customer uses to bring it back in). Good for them. Second interview: 1:1 with a manager & the section leader of where they are considering putting you. Hypothetical questions and background questions. I was asked "how long will you stay at CM?" I said: "as long as it takes - I am interested in advancement, and would love the opportunity to explore becoming a buyer" ~ this is what killed me. 2 weeks later I got a "no thanks" letter.
