      Recruiting Manager Interview

      Feb 6, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Centrical (New York, NY) in Jan 2020

      Interview

Had one of THE most rude and unprofessional interview in my professional career with the hiring manager, who was shockingly an HR executive at this company. I was submitted through an agency and was initially so excited about the role but after a 30 min conversation with the hiring manager, I quickly withdrew myself from the process. During the part where I was asked to give a high level summary of my background, I started to explain my different roles back when I first started recruiting 9 years ago and she consistently kept cutting me off to rudely ask trivial questions like "So why did you leave that role?" for every single position that I have on my resume. For one of the roles that I left, I respectfully answered that I was given the opportunity to work in an industry that I was interested in and her response was "why does the industry matter to you if you're just working for a company and not using the product?" What?? In addition, she cuts me off in the middle of the conversation and told me to hold so she can talk to someone else that walked in the room. Completely disrespectful. Towards the end where I explained that I was sole recruiter that helped scale the last start-up I was at, the only snarky questions she asked me was "So, did the team grew??". She then proceeds to abruptly end the call short, 30 min into the interview in what was initially scheduled for an hour call. Her reasoning was that she wants to reschedule the call to following week, and wants me on video call. That was not an issue in the beginning of the call, but it is suddenly an issue now??? There were absolutely NO thoughtful or engaging questions through-out the interview about recruiting processes/metrics/procedures/etc. that you would expect for a typical recruiting interview. Nit-picking on why I left a company 9 years ago does NOT reflect on what I am able to offer now. Ripping apart my resume and experiences does NOT show what I have achieved and how I successfully (or unsuccessfully) recruited in the past. I cannot shake the feeling that for whatever reason it was, she had something against my profile and did not seriously consider me as a candidate. All I received were a form of passive-aggressiveness, along with the lack of respect for my time and her snarky, condescending trivial questions. If this is how it is 30 min into the call, I cannot imagine working directly under someone like that. For a competitive market these days, employer branding and candidate experience goes a long way and the lack of professionalism I experienced is shocking. It's a shame because I was genuinely excited to be considered and it seems like a great company/product otherwise. This was not expected at all.
