The Recruiter and Hiring Experience Associate who worked with me were extremely responsive and helpful throughout the interview process! The interview process was very organized from beginning to end. I also especially appreciated the Recruiter's assistance with getting my thank you letters to the interviewers.
Even though this was the most extensive interview process I have ever gone through, it was actually very enjoyable. Everyone I met with was kind, welcoming, and passionate about their work. The questions asked were very thoughtful and the interviewers seemed genuinely interested in learning about me and my experiences and skills. Overall, I had a very positive experience.
Please note that at the time of writing this review, I selected "No" for "Did you get an offer?" because I have not been notified of the hiring decision yet.
We are thrilled to hear that our team was responsive and helpful. We know interviewing can be difficult, and it’s important to us that every candidate feel supported in the interview process. Thank you for considering CZI in your job search!
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Chan Zuckerberg Initiative in Jul 2020
Interview
First call with the recruiter was a pleasant, 30-minute conversation to introduce CZI and the role, understand my skill set and prepare me for the interview with the hiring manager. I was asked to write and send a cover letter prior to the next interview, which I thought was odd to do at this stage.
Second call with the hiring manager was
off-putting. He was condescending and spoke as if I was a nuisance disturbing his day. It’s a shame that someone like that works in Education and Social Justice— no doubt he’s smart and competent judging by the way he answered my questions, but intellect is useless when coupled with a bad attitude. I knew within the first 2 minutes of the interview that I wouldn’t want to work with him, so I was quite relieved to hear I didn’t make it to the next round.
Thank you for sharing this feedback with us. CZI is committed to creating an environment that exhibits value and respect for everyone throughout the hiring process. We are sorry to hear this was your experience and promise to do better. We hope you will consider CZI in the future.

Interview
The recruiter contacted me soon after applying online and we set up a phone interview. I spent 20 minutes waiting for the recruiter, who never called. Afterward, he said he couldn't make it and we would reschedule. I emailed back several times, but he never responded again. I then got one of those automated rejection emails the next day.
It was incredibly disrespectful to flake on our interview, and then not have the courtesy to respond to my emails. I lost my chance to interview for a company I really was excited about because of the recruiter's scheduling conflicts and unresponsiveness. How will CZI recruit and hire quality employees if they don't treat candidates with respect?
We really appreciate your feedback, and I'm so sorry this happened. Having a recruiter miss out on a phone interview and not respond to your emails is not acceptable. Your feedback is noted, and we will work on improving! - Kathleen (Recruiting Manager)
