I came in for interviews on 2 separate occasions after filling out a brief email list of questions that served as a phone interview. Interviews went great, I met with 3 individuals from the company and everyone was friendly and nice enough.
The problem came the next week after scheduling a phone interview with a 4th individual. Despite confirming my cell phone number, the call never came and the implication was that I didn't pick up. Whatever, didn't matter, I rescheduled with my point of contact for the next day, confirming my phone number for a 2nd and 3rd time.
The next day comes and my phone is in my hand, when I again get nothing but an email correspondence asking to please pick up my phone. I read and respond to this email from my phone, pretty frantic and I hear nothing back. I call the office's line and the line is dead. I email again in a few hours asking for some insight as to what happened and I hear nothing back. I decide that it's late afternoon on a Thursday and that I'll surely hear SOMETHING by Monday. Monday comes and still I hear nothing. I email again to follow up, trying to gain any insight about what happened. Nothing.
Two weeks after this failed attempt at a phone interview I dig up a phone number for my point of contact and get a voicemail. I leave a voicemail, but I grow concerned that perhaps something has happened to this person and to their health. So I email the individual with whom my phone interview was scheduled and ask about whether my point of contact was on leave or had been terminated or hospitalized or something.
After all of this I get an email response to the last week's message backhandedly apologizing that I "hadn't received the earlier email" informing me that they had filled the role. No such email was ever sent.
The way Checkr strung me along really interfered with other opportunities that I am pursuing and I can only imagine how this experience might be reflective of the company's values as a whole. This company is either wildly unorganized (makes sense with no proper HR department) or wildly unprofessional (or both) and I would urge extreme caution for any applicant.
SUMMARY: This company pinned their bad communication on me, takes 2 weeks to inform me that I am no longer a candidate; seem both very unorganized and very unprofessional.
