If you're currently working at a competitor in the background check space, proceed with caution. I spent 40+ hours preparing for this multi-round interview process, including building a final presentation for their C-suite and senior product/engineering leaders. Despite reaching the final stage, I received only vague, unhelpful feedback ("your presentation didn't measure up") and no actionable insights.
Worse, after being told the role was filled, the company reposted the same job a week later—with no explanation. When I followed up, my emails were ignored.
The interviews leaned heavily into technical and operational details about my current company’s stack and processes. It felt less like a fair evaluation and more like a fishing expedition for competitive intelligence.
Given their position in the background check space, you'd expect more professionalism, transparency, and respect for candidates' time—especially those coming from direct competitors. Unfortunately, this experience left me with the impression that the hiring funnel is being used as a strategic intel-gathering tool rather than a genuine talent search.
Takeaway: If you’re in the same industry, think twice before pulling back the curtain for them.
