Chemonics International Assistant interview questions

I received an email from a recruiter asking to schedule a phone interview. The phone interview was maybe 30 minutes, asking typical questions. The recruiter did not seem as interested in the position as I was. He impressed upon me that the position was a menial, administrative one and discussed the hourly wage. I was thrown off by the fact that the wage was hourly and should have masked my surprise better, although I responded positively. Then, a month went by with no contact. Eventually, I received an automated email saying they were moving forward with other candidates but encouraging me to apply to other positions.
