      Fulfillment Specialist Interview

      May 7, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Phoenix, AZ
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Chewy (Phoenix, AZ) in May 2020

      Interview

AWFUL... I've tried to apply for several positions at Chewy and finally got an interview for a job that fit my skill set. During that interview, when the woman found out that I would have to relocate for the position she made the comment "well we really only want people who are local". On my application, I put my address and it was on my resume, so if she had read my application and resume she would have known that. I also checked that I was willing to relocate, so I'm not sure why this was even an issue. The interview continues, she tells me that Chewy would "really prefer to hire from within" (obviously, I was an external candidate - so why bother if this is your preference). I didn't get this job, which was a no brainer after how the woman acted about my not being local or currently employed by Chewy. I've heard great things about the company, so I decided to give the low level positions a shot to get my foot in the door and applied for a Fulfillment Specialist position. I wasn't expecting much from an "Open Interview" but this was by far worse than anything I could have ever expected. Went to the open interview, stood outside in 100+ degrees heat for an hour and 40 minutes. Then was moved inside with probably 30 other "candidates". They had huge signs up saying how 6 feet social distancing was strictly enforced, but we were all crammed in there barely 2 feet apart. We sat in this room for another hour and a half, while the people in charge (and I say that as loosely as possible) waited for people to apply (who hadn't bothered to do so before coming to the open interview) and those of us who had applied to fill out paperwork. Not only did you not actually speak to anyone about any of your qualifications, they hired EVERYONE IN THE ROOM!!! Literally, their exact words, when everyone was finished with their paperwork, were "Congratulations, you're all hired!" What a joke. You know some of these people had no experience what-so-ever. It was insulting and the most unprofessional situation I have ever experienced in my life. They probably "hired" over 100 people today - anyone who could pass a drug test and a background check. And it should be noted they have "open interviews" every day of the week. During the hour and a half that we were all crammed into the room waiting to be "hired", the guy who I'm assuming is the hiring manager - he did everyone's drug test- was on the other side of a curtain, cussing, talking about drinking, going to concerts, the pool at his house, the pool at another employee's house. Definitely not behavior I would have expected from a "hiring manager" (and I took a video of their conversations, it's not great quality, but I'd love for Chewy to contact me and say that's not true - cause I have video. I also have pictures of how close I was to the people in from of me - no social distancing). I'm not sure how this company is as successful as they are. This process was insulting. They obviously don't care about getting qualified employees and just hire as many people as they can, I'm assuming to cover when people quit - which is probably a lot. In case anyone is wondering, I got the job!! But I don't do drugs and my background is completely clean! And I'm breathing, so that's a plus. I guess this is a good set up for those that are desperate and don't mind being treated like complete trash. I also now see why they hire from within, they've got to make sure you'll be OK with their unprofessional culture in order for you to work your way up. If you're a professional and have experience, I would say save yourself the trouble and 3 hours of your life. I also can't answer several of the questions below, as none of them are relevant to the "interview" I experienced today. I can't call this a group/panel interview - as there was no interview. EVERY WAS HIRED!! No questions asked.

      Question 1

None, doesn't matter if you have qualifications or not I guess. You're just like cattle. If you're breathing, not on drugs and not a felon, you're hired!!

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Chewy (Lewisberry, PA) in Nov 2024

      Interview

I live at a distance to the Lewisberry location, which I knew going in. It sounded like an opportunity I was interested in. So after I applied online and was invited down for an interview on 11/13/24, that's when thing got kind of weird. Upon first entering the parking lot, it took me while to park but after I entered the building is when it got weird. Some guy from the floor who could barely speak English was able to direct me to the office where they handle interviews/job fairs. Upon entering this office, two people in the whole room and I barely got a greeting. I had to ask where I was supposed to go after I signed in. After sitting down for a few minutes, I was eventually summoned over to a male representative of the company where he started asking me questions. Now to some extend I was prepared to answer any question given to me, but this guy decided to almost neglect my resume that was right in front of him explaining my work history. This is where the turning point essentially began, after I was asked about my work history, my intentions for Chewy, salary expectation, what I did at my current employer. So after it all, the man interviewing me started acting weird like he wasn't expecting it to take some time. Then upon being asked when I would be available to start, I said I would give my current employer a two week notice. Well, that's when this man started to cringe and almost laugh nervously. I knew something was up. Nonetheless, we ended things with a simple hand shake upon the man informing me that I would likely get an offer in about two days. Well, low and behold, I received a letter all right, a rejection letter saying they were looking for more experienced people? Like WTF seriously? How hard could it be to learn a position like that? I feel like this place takes nothing seriously and wastes a lot of peoples time. Not like they didn't know what they were going to do. Simply a disgusting act of professionalism! Never again with this place!

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Chewy (Reno-Stead, NV) in Oct 2024

      Interview

It was a walk-in, offer on the spot kind of thing job fair. They were looking to hire a bunch of people in October to train to gear up for the holiday sales. If you could read, lift up to 50 lbs. and do basic math, you would get hired. That late in the season, they would take anyone. Not kidding. Lots of people obviously smoking pot, you could smell it on them. They were useless, but management looked the other way for them, and the handicapped people they let slide, while they expected the rest of us to hustle to make up the numbers.
