I applied through college or university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at CipherHealth (New York, NY)
Interview
-unpleasant experience
-unnecessary long process
-no space in office to accommodate candidates
-redundant questions by interviewers; challenge my knowledge in healthcare. Don't ask dull behavioral questions that made me yawn.
-excessive number of interviews (4 in total--a waste of my time and theirs)
-random employees asked to interview me and kept me waiting (2 hours total)
-Half of the interviewers had no idea what the position that I applied to entailed
-Messy workspace, left a bad impression
-Most of the interviewers were very nice, intelligent, and clearly talented.
-HR contact was super friendly and was always prompt in answering my emails
-After a long onerous process, I was rejected and I was happy that I did and took an offer from a major health system in New York City
A word of Advice: Improve your hiring process and respect the candidate's time, as well as your employees. Half of the interviewers had their minds set on something else and were distracted by the fact that they had to interview me. Context matters and I felt I could had perform better had I been given a quite room to have a conversation with my interviewers (is this a unreasonable request? Absolutely not). Several individuals interrupted my interview, including a lady who worked for a healthcare magazine company who had an appointment with someone at Cipher but the person wasn't in the office and never contacted her to inform her. The lady was clearly furious because she came a long way. How unprofessional was this? Did I had to experience all of this show during my interview? No.
My review here in Glass Door is not an outlier, there are a few in here that illustrate a very similar story to mine. Finally, some of the folks at Cipher should exercise some humility. Sure, Cipher has won some awards for work culture and accolades for innovation. But you are still a small fish in a very crowded market. Stay humble my friends!
*Don't waste your time, there are better companies doing similar work out there, where you can learn from seasoned professionals and not from folks who are just a couple of years older than you, assuming you are a graduate student in your twenties*
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Teach me something under 5-minutes that I don't know about? This was the most interesting and thoughtful question during the whole interview process. I liked the person who asked it as well, she was smart, personable, and funny.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at CipherHealth
Interview
I applied via their company website, and heard back from a few weeks. The process took a bit of back & forth.
1st round: Phone screen with recruiter
2nd round: Phone interview with someone on the team
3rd round: in-person onsite interview with a couple people on the team
4th round: presentation
During the process, it was a little tedious to have to go through all the rounds of interviews, but looking back, I think it was good because you really get a sense of the culture. I was interviewing for healthcare tech startups and Cipher by far had the best culture I had ever seen. It was a bit surprising how much I could like a bunch of people. Everyone was very friendly, energetic, enthusiastic.
I disagree with a review I saw prior to interviewing that stated how it seemed Cipher wasted his/her time on all the rounds. It seems to me that Cipher is very particular with making sure a candidate is a good fit (both culturally and mission-wise). It is also a start-up, so yes, it may not be pristine and all tidy, however, I do not think it is a messy environment. I feel it is just a typical start-up environment.
