I went through an incredibly long and taxing interview process with this company. Nine interviews spanning over a month, including a two hour in person panel of four back to back interviews and then additional teams meetings with senior leadership on top of that. After all of that time and effort, I finally received an offer. When I tried to have a respectful conversation about aligning the offer closer to market expectations, especially given the lengthy process and their stated interest in me and the mutual fit, their response was to immediately rescind the offer and hand the role to the next candidate. Seemingly taking personal offense at my attempt to discuss salary was unprofessional and extremely short-sighted. If this is how they reacted to a simple salary discussion, I can only imagine what future conversations surrounding promotions or raises would look like. This process felt less like a collaborative hiring experience and more like a one way transaction. They demanded significant time and effort but were completely inflexible and reactive as soon as I raised a simple, respectful discussion. There was no real dialogue or effort to address my concerns. For all their talk of growth and long term investment, their actions proved that they would rather fill seats with those who are willing to accept their terms and comply without question. Advice for Management: Start valuing fit and contribution over cost alone. The “take it or leave it” mentality doesn’t attract or retain top talent, especially in a market like Boston where the cost of living is so high and candidates have choices. As a professional organization, you should fully expect candidates to advocate for themselves. It’s a standard part of the process and not something to take personally. If you want to build a strong team and reduce turnover, respect the candidates’ time and focus on the right fit, not just the cheapest option. Summary: If you’re considering applying at HQ, be wary. My experience suggests that this company’s actions don’t align with its words.
