I received a message from a recruiter on Y Combinator's job search website. I replied to schedule an interview, and it took a while for her to get back to me. I had forgotten about the role. The interview was scheduled for 15 minutes. Really? Interviews should be at least 30 min to an hour to give both parties enough time to learn and ask questions. It is a mutual interview. During the interview, the recruiter said she couldn't find my profile. I asked where she was looking, and she said AngelList. I was like, I'm not on that website. I figured the recruiter sent me a templated message when she reached out to me and hadn't read my profile or resume. She came to the interview unprepared and didn't ask any questions about my work experience or expectations. I asked the recruiter what seniority level the job is because they required one year of experience, and I'm a senior to management level. She finally found my profile and said the role was too junior for me. Okay, then why did you reach out? Recruiting shouldn't be like sending cold emails to candidates. Employers expect so much from candidates; however, they offer very little in the interview process. The recruiter wasted the time that I took off from work. She asked that I apply for other job roles, and after reading the other reviews and having that experience, I decided this isn't a company I'd want to work for. People have to stop using the 'startup excuse' as a reason for disorganization and lack of preparation.
