      Sales Director Interview

      Interview

No real interview. Initial interview is a UNPAID CASE STUDY! RUNN! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME! They make you submit this in the initial phase with no understanding if you're a good fit. The exercise takes a day or 2 to complete if you want to do it well. Then they email you a standard mass rejection email after submitting it. Didn't submit the project as I don't do unpaid projects. They don't value peoples time enough to even have a phone screen. Goodluck to anyone considering on working for this company.

      Question 1

At a recent offsite, we broke into small groups of 2-3 people each and imagined ourselves as the leadership team of another marketplace company with somewhat different dynamics. We want to do the same thing with you, because this is our best idea for giving you the most truthful and realistic simulation of what it's like to work together. We love this stuff, and relish the opportunity and responsibility that comes with being stewards of a large marketplace that thousands depend on. 1. If you were running Uber, what’s your best 2-3 ideas that actually pencil? 2. What’s the output operating metric or financial metric that’s most important to move? 3. What’s the input metric that is the most powerful one to move, to move that output metric? 4. What are the best 2-3 ideas of initiatives to move that input metric? You should feel free to delve into any of their businesses: mobility, eats, and freight. But, your job is to figure out exactly what to do so you can actually do it. The fun is in the details. We hope to talk about (and we recommend but don’t require that you do a quick writeup) exactly how to implement your initiative, success criteria, and if it doesn’t work the most likely reason why (a pre-mortem). Finally, you should predict the effect size of each initiative on the input metric & parent output metric(s) tracing as far up into the P&L or operating metrics as possible. Essentially, if yours were the only new initiatives the company was undertaking, what’s expected financial impact next quarter or year? What guidance are you giving to the public markets? (We are well on our way to being a public company, so we think this is useful for high-impact roles to be thinking about). So you can see an example of what we mean, here’s the writeup from one of the groups whose target company was DoorDash. I will note we would not give this example a 10/10 grade; there are good parts, and there are weak parts in this example. It’s meant only as something to help you orient to the exercise. ● Financial statements: you can find these publicly available online. You can, honestly, also just make reasonable assumptions. ● One group’s plan: Group Name: The New Yorkers. Company: DoorDash

      Interview

The interview process at Clipboard begins with an extremely detailed case study. As someone with significant experience handling such assessments, I found this one to be excessive. To provide truly meaningful feedback, a candidate would need to dedicate several hours researching the company, industry, and stakeholders in addition to analyzing the case itself. Despite the time and effort put into the case study, the next stage involved an interview with a top sales lead who opened with a very generic question—essentially asking what I thought the company should do. This was frustrating, as my case submission had already outlined this in detail, suggesting the interviewer had not read or thoroughly reviewed my work. Furthermore, the interviewer struggled to communicate clearly, which made the conversation more difficult. Overall, I believe Clipboard should reassess both the structure of its interview process and the preparedness of its internal team. For candidates, the experience feels inefficient and disjointed given the level of effort required upfront.
