Interview
Beware of Exploitative Hiring Practices at Clipboard Health! I’m sharing my experience with Clipboard Health to help other job seekers make informed decisions about whether to apply. Based on their hiring process, I strongly believe their practices are unethical and exploitative, reflecting a profound lack of respect for candidates’ time and effort. *Here’s what their first-round interview requires* - Developing a customer service auditing rubric from scratch. - Auditing 12 customer interactions, including three phone calls (two of which were 30 minutes long, calls they specifically selected). - Providing detailed feedback for specific representatives based on the audits. - Answering multiple questions to explain your grading methodology and feedback style. - Creating an actionable performance improvement plan for the lowest-performing representative. This is hours of unpaid labor required just to get to the next round. The scope and detail of this work far exceed what should reasonably be asked of candidates without compensation. *To make matters worse* No pay range was included in their job posting. When I directly asked about compensation during the hiring process to ensure alignment, they ignored my question entirely. After completing the extensive case study, they rejected my application and explicitly stated they would not provide feedback on the work I submitted. If you’re asking candidates to do free work, the bare minimum is to offer constructive feedback in return. This entire process demonstrates a blatant disregard for the time, effort, and value of job seekers. For comparison, I’ve worked with companies that value candidates enough to compensate them for case studies or similar tasks. Clipboard Health's approach, by contrast, sends a clear message: they do not respect or value the people they hope to hire. *Why This Matters* Unethical hiring practices like this exploit candidates and perpetuate unfair treatment in the job market. Companies that demand this level of unpaid work are asking for professional expertise while giving nothing in return—not even transparency about pay or constructive feedback. *My Advice to Job Seekers* Be cautious about applying to Clipboard Health. Their hiring process is both disrespectful and exploitative, and it raises serious red flags about how they might treat employees. Transparency, respect, and fairness should be baseline expectations for any company you consider working for. Clipboard Health needs to do better. Candidates are not free labor. Companies that respect job seekers compensate fairly for their time, are transparent about pay, and ensure the hiring process reflects the values they claim to uphold. I hope this post helps others avoid wasting their time on a process like this. Everyone deserves better.
