I was contacted by a recruiter via email and set up an intro call. They spent around an hour telling me about the company and positions. I wish the conversation would have been condensed into 15 minutes as most of the content was not descriptive enough to enable me to understand what they were looking for. They offered to let me do an at-home coding challenge due to Covid restrictions. It sounded like a good experience for brushing up on some interview skills. At this point, I checked Glassdoor to see how the process went for other people. It seems like it's been a negative experience for the devs that have been contacted. Next came the coding challenge prompt via email as an at-home test. It reminded me of some final project for a university class on server applications. - Some of the requirements seemed vague and likely to result in highly subjective feedback. - The scope was really a full application, which could take weeks or months to build out at scale, rather than an interview oriented test of skills. The application took me around 14 hours over a couple of days to build and test, though I wasn't sure of what they were looking for exactly. If you have time to burn, this is a great opportunity. After a week, I got feedback that the solution wasn't what they were lookinging. This is what I was expecting, but it was still a good challenge to build.
