I was reached out to by a recruiter about possible interest. The interview went very well and she was very forthcoming with details but was unable to pin down specifics, which I attributed to her being unfamiliar with technical aspects of the role.
They moved me to the next round where I would meet with the person who would be my boss. The man was late to the meeting, he spent barely any time looking at me. He would ask questions and then go on to his work and when I would stop he would ask follow-ups or just move on. I never felt like I had his full attention. The largest issue I had with the process is that they were now in "start-up mode" and had to be secretive. However, this made it impossible to grasp the full scope of the job. I explained to the recruiter in my rejection email that based on his ranges, my scope could be any where from 80-280 spaces with anywhere from 12 to 49 employees. Those are vastly different sizes and different roles. I was unable to get any clear answers. When I asked about upward mobility and was told I would move up based on how much work I was willing to do, which made the whole thing feel incredibly unstructured.
I was told in a follow-up that he thought I was an amazing candidate and would move on to the next round. That round would consist of taking three questions they provided and to make a 45 min. PowerPoint presentation to a panel interview with questions. It was at this point that I removed myself from the process, as I did not feel like it was the correct fit and I did not appreciate being asked to do free work so far along in the process.
