Two phone screenings, an assigned task with a write-up submitted, followed by an in-person interview (cross country, on my own dime). The in-person interview was four hours long, with 6 30-minute interviews followed by a lunch. The interviews were all timely, friendly, and task-focused with different areas covered in each. I was told that it would be at least a week until I found out about "next steps", then I was contacted and told that there was a scheduling issue, but reassured that I was highly considered and falsely encouraged that I would get the job, after another week there were more scheduling issues, and then a week later I was turned down. I understand that weird things happen, people have to interview a certain number of candidates for a slot, and sometimes the CEO's friend's daughter gets the job over a qualified outside candidate, but they dragged this out for two months, gave me false hope, and cost me quite a bit personally.
Glad I'm not working for a company that can't get a simple interview process down.
