I applied online and was contacted two days later by the recruiter for Cloudflare. Within a week I had an initial phone call with the hiring manager. During that call, I was asked a few generic questions and spent most of my time listening to him speak. When it came to next steps, I was instructed that I'll be receiving one more phone screen with a sales manager. I was also to prepare in two ways for a possible onsite interview:
1. I needed to study the product as well as www.code.org to better understand the technical aspects
2. I was to prepare a 5-7 minute presentation on a topic of my choice
10 days after my original application I had my second phone screen. The conversation went well in my opinion but seemed random as to why I was speaking with him. When I asked that very question, he said he did not know. (Seemed a bit odd). After this interview the recruiter reached out to set up an onsite interview. We agreed upon a date and time.
48 hours before my onsite, the hiring manager asked to move up the schedule by a half hour, to which I agreed. On the day of, I was set to interview with 3 managers then the hiring manager. When I arrived, everything went normally, I received a walk around the office, and then into a conference room. The hiring manager had his backpack with him and decided that he was going to go first. We jumped into everything, to which he spent most of the time talking, and the 30 minutes went by quickly.
Each of the 3 managers also came to interview me. The last two, however, were a tad late so we finished behind schedule. When my interviews were completed, I sat in the room for about 10 minutes wondering what was next. Finally, I sent a message to the recruiter that I was finished. I was thanked and told that within 4 days I would have an answer on next steps, but another round of interviews would be likely.
8 days later, having not received any word, I reached out to the recruiter. It took 3 additional days to receive a response that they would not be moving forward with me. This was a poor experience in my eyes and seemed to corroborate my suspicion that the company is disorganized for it's size.
I would like to add that though everyone was courteous, I was a bit annoyed that I was asked to prepare a presentation that I was never given the opportunity to present. The hiring manager admits to having a massive workload and that seems to have been reflected in this process.
