The hiring process lacks a well thought out structure. No one that I interviewed with had any idea who I'd already spoken to, interviews scheduled hours before they were to happen, and the job description was not accurate when compared to what the actual job requirements would be. After speaking with several EAs (loved that part of the interview process) it was very evident that this was a role focusing on scheduling (not calendar management), travel, and expenses. It was made very clear there is little to no room for leveraging the EA role for high level responsibilities. And in speaking with a Sr. EA I very much got the vibe that support staff at Cloudflare are very restricted in their roles with limited opportunities to expand their skills. Also, everyone kept saying that I was doing panel interviews (2 or more people) but every single interview was 1:1. Cloudflare refers to back to back interviews as panel interviews. Not a big deal, but I find it odd a company this size is not using correct business terms. Finally, they had me interview with someone from another dept for a cross functional culture fit. Great idea! Just please dont waste my time with someone who's first question is... Uh, what are ya gonna do here? And I'd also coach people doing those interviews to not say things like... Oh, you're a lucky one to be interviewing. We're on a hiring freeze for most of the company. Or... Yeah, some of our software and billing practices need more transparency.
Overall, there were several great people that I chatted with but I knew the role was too limited in scope for me.
