Phone screen w recruiter, technical phone screen on coderpad, half day onsite.
Things were fine until the onsite. Two of the engineers I interviewed with were fine / nice, but my interview with the engineering manager was horrible. Good interviews should feel like a conversation. You're interviewing the company just as much as they're interviewing you. However, this one felt like an interrogation. He quizzed me on every skill and bullet point on my resume. It felt very much like I was on trial, except I was guilty until proven innocent. That is, guilty of lying on my resume until I proved otherwise by answering his questions correctly. Horrible. He also had absolutely no EQ and the fact that he was an engineering MANAGER, not even an IC, was a huge red flag. It made me seriously question the quality of the engineering culture and the culture at Clutter as a whole.
Then came my conversation with the VP of engineering. I highly value humility and low ego, so naturally that's what I look for in a team as well. He exhibited the exact opposite. He took himself and Clutter way too seriously. He kept congratulating me on "surviving" their interview so far, and while not in the same words, essentially said to me that they were the only startup in LA that was "legit," "hardcore" like a "real" Silicon Valley type tech company. At the end of the interview he congratulated me again for surviving, "even with him".
In the end I didn't receive an offer because of some hiccups during the technical, but had already planned on declining if I received one.
