I interviewed for a senior people role a couple years ago. Perhaps their treatment of candidates has improved by now. I went to the final rounds but was summarily eliminated from the process because the hiring manager was offended that I waited until the weekend to complete their extensive take-home exercise. The take-home exercise was inappropriate, frankly. They requested numerous work products that were directly relevant to the company (reorg recommendations, wholesale revamping of existing processes), etc. As a seasoned HR exec, I was able to sit down and do it all in one sitting, but it was at least 20 pages worth of work product that I delivered. Within about 15 minutes of turning it in, the hiring manager emailed me to say that I was not going to be considered because I had asked until the weekend to complete it. Really made it quite clear as to why they needed a senior HR person.
