I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Cogent Communications (Pasadena, CA) in Jun 2018
Interview
The appointment was set up with a manager other than the two inexperienced, unfriendly clowns that were made to sit in. With no apology, they began the interview in a dirty conference room, not as dirty as their shirts and general looks were. It is a shame for managers to come across so unprofessional. The questions were all over the map and non of them asked me about my accomplishments, even though I have been in this line of work for over 10 years. One of the managers almost fell asleep at the end of the day, the other was trying very hard to act like he knows what he is doing. As I have been a hiring manager before, there is more structure in questioning, of course if you are employed by a professional organization and not one where employees are heading to the exit door. It's like the "In N' Out Burger" of a telecom companies.
These managers may outlast the sales people by an additional month, if upper management realizes that nobody wants to work with these people in the first place. Very bad experience. Stay away from this company.

Walk me through your day (8 hours) behind the desk. (they must have been looking for how often I empty my bladder....)
I applied online. I interviewed at Cogent Communications (San Francisco, CA) in Sep 2025

Very quick and straightforward. Fast hiring process. One recruiter phone interview, one in person with the hiring manager that lasts about an hour. Very quick turnaround time to get hired, which is appreciated.

Question 1
I honestly can’t remember. It was more of a “tell me about your background” conversation type environment. It felt pretty casual and natural. I feel like I asked most of the questions.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Cogent Communications in Aug 2024
Interview
very straightforward two round interview process, 1st call screen with a recuriter, 2nd call is either in person or virtual screening with 1-2 managers. Some questions they ask, 1) how do you structure your day to complete the tasks? 2) previous quota attainment and performance, how does that translate into a role with Cogent? 3) any transferrable knowledge or skills that will make you successful at cogent?

Question 1
How do you manage your time throughout the day? what portion of time do you devote to calls/emails and prospecting?
Single interview. Basic questions about experience and organization skills. We’re looking for coachability, organization skills, and networking skills. They’re very upfront about pay, expectations, and culture as well. I got an offer two days later, so the process is quick.
