I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Colorado State University in Jan 2021
Interview
I was provided links to a one-way video interview and was told to complete it in three days. The questions flashed across a screen with a red countdown timer so that you could see the time remaining to answer. I felt this was not the best choice to get to know candidates, as people do not come across as themselves when they are punching a clock trying to provide responses in a specified time frame while being recorded talking into a video screen. Those who may be good interviewers otherwise are not necessarily good trying to provide answers by themselves without the benefit of having a two-way conversation in this format. If provided with this option for an interview in this format in the future I would likely decline. If a company is going to spend the time to watch someone’s video they can be present on the phone to speak to a candidate instead. Maybe it’s a matter of selecting top candidates for those phone calls instead of mass video requests, I’m not sure.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Colorado State University
Interview
It was good. I had a 30-minute interview, during which three people asked me questions. They were friendly and professional, and the questions covered a mix of my experience, skills, and how I approach design challenges. It felt like a balanced conversation, and I enjoyed the opportunity to share my perspectives.
