I applied for a customer service rep position through my university. Within 24 hours a received a call to interview with them. As I was not near the location I had applied to they told me they would be in touch if one of their trainers stopped by California. I was called about a week later asking if I could meet a trainer in San Francisco and I declined as I live in Southern California. The woman seemed absolutely oblivious to the fact that it is literally a 6 hour drive. I was contacted again 2 weeks later for an interview in Southern California, this time 1 hour away from where I live. I met with a trainer who has been with the company for 10 years. He told me how they purposely keep the job posting vague and don't have a lot of information out there about the company. He also told me that the position that I applied to was actually 2-3 positions and that they sort people into them based on a variety of factors. As he kept talking I just kept hearing red flags. I have no idea why they seem to be so old school and secretive. Also, I left with the impression that the interviewer felt intimidated by me as he kept repeating "but I'm not that smart" after answering my questions. He is the only person who I've ever interviewed with who has come off as extremely uncomfortable and intimidated. I'm not a genius by any standards, I did go to a top 20 university and it seemed to be enough to make the interviewer feel like an idiot and he acted like it. I seriously felt like giving him a pep talk to make himself feel better at the end. I wasn't surprised that I never heard from him again and only heard from the company when I sent an additional email to another contact I had. They actually sent an old school letter via regular mail that I didn't get the job. They did this after about a month of me not hearing from anyone and honestly after the negative experience with that interviewer I would never want to work there anyway.
