      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Con Edison (New York, NY) in Feb 2026

      Interview

The interviews were conducted by a two people in a panel both times with the same people. The odd part was that I never spoke to HR or recruiting and the interviews were conducted by the hiring manager and the person who is leaving this position for another assignment. They were both professional simply going through the prepared questions. I don’t think the questions were specific to me rather than me providing answers to the same questions which were posed to everyone. Both panelists alternated between questions. There was very little time spent on my resume and I felt that I needed to point the conversation in that direction from time to time. The first session was mostly concerned with job-related questions where the second one was all behavioral. I have never had a session dedicated to behavioral questions so I would like to think this is where I did not do well. I don’t remember most of them but the one that stuck in my mind was “Give me an example where you exercised good judgement” without details. This one had me stumped since we exercised good judgement daily from not jumping over turnstiles, not stealing groceries from the store, driving responsibly, and so on. I was able to answer as it pertained to my IT responsibilities in the past (or tried to) but clearly I failed as a whole. From what I recall, other questions were about challenges, issues, difficult clients. I don’t think that spending 1 hr. on “what if” scenarios is the best use of interview time but in reading reviews here I saw that this is the way ConEd does it.
