Flawed Hiring Approach for Senior Software Architect Role My recent encounter with a company's hiring process for a Senior Software Architect role left me dismayed. Their approach to evaluation, coupled with the interviewer's lack of understanding, was deeply concerning. The interview process revolved around coding assessments on an IDE/Notepad, with no allowance for pseudocode. This disregarded the broader skill set required for architectural roles. Moreover, the interviewer displayed a limited grasp of the subject matter, insisting on a singular approach to problem-solving. They continually interrupted to negate alternative solutions. This closed-mindedness contradicted the reality that various paths can lead to solving complex problems. To top it off, the final coding challenge provided was trivial and, absurdly, meant to be solved on a notepad. This experience highlighted the misalignment between their evaluation process and the senior architect role. The interviewer's inability to comprehend diverse problem-solving approaches emphasized the company's flawed assessment methods. Given these issues, I opted to withdraw from the process. This serves as a reminder of the importance of holistic evaluation methods and knowledgeable interviewers who understand the complexities of the roles they're evaluating.
